Williamsburg Apple Cream Cheese Torte

from Kat4life

Crust:

You can use your favorite pie crust recipe for a nine inch pan or buy a refrigerated pie crust. It's the first time I made this recipe and I opted to use Pepperidge Farms Puff Pastry Sheets. It worked great!

Pat onto bottom and up 1" sides of 9" springform (torte) pan.

Filling:
12 oz. cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp lemon rind (can't stress enough how important this is)

Combine all ingredients (I used a mixer on high to make mine a more fluffy filling
, you don't have to) and spread filling over crust..

Topping:
1 quart baking apples, peeled, sliced (About 6 medium apples)
I used an 8 slice apple cutter then cut them once again into 16 slices each apple.
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

6 TB slivered or sliced almonds

Toss together apples, sugar and spices. Arrange apple mixture on top of cheese mixture.

Sprinkle with 6 tbsp. slivered or sliced almonds.

Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes.

Reduce to 400 degrees and bake 25 minutes longer.

Cool before serving.
